Open
Students Competition. Theme: “Iakov Chernikhov Museum-Gallery
of Modern Architecture”
Competition
task
The present-day situation in the world architecture cannot
be called the epoch of dominating style. Hardly having time
to be formed, holding its positions as the main stream for not
over ten years, one trend is being replaced by another. Art
Nouveau, functionalism, art deco, neoclassicism, minimalism,
modernism, postmodern, deconstructivism, non-linear architecture…
In connection with this the Foundation proposes the participants
of the competition to submit their own version of the museum-gallery
of modern architecture (from 2 ths. sq.m. to 10 ths. sq.m.).
Proceeding from the fact that Iakov Chernikhov created his architectural
fantasies without being in need for any definite sites, the
participants of the competition can independently determine
the site for conceptual designing of the museum: either with
the orientation to the really existing place in the city, where
this architectural school is located (both within the old boundaries
of the city or reconstructed industrial enterprises and on the
new active city sites or in the abstract space – on the land,
in the water, in the air and even in the virtual space. In their
designs the participants can use the images of Iakov Chernikhov
that are represented in the cycles «Fundamentals
of Modern Architecture» (1925-1930), «Construction
of Architectural and Machine Forms» (1925-1931), «Architectural
Fantasies» (1925-1933)
. The obligatory element of the museum-gallery
of modern architecture is the exhibition hall (300 m2 ) intended
