«Architectural Landscapes», 1930-1932
«Industrial Architecture», 1932 - 1936
The
architectural miniatures became a separate interesting stage in the creative
work of Iakov Chernikhov. Here he managed to concentrate complicated
images of buildings in small images.
The
“Architectural fantasies” performed the execution of “small constructions”
on the architectural themes with the features peculiar to the miniatures,
i.e. finesse of the image with larger subject saturation.
“The
subjects of miniature compositions "Architectural Landscapes"
served: industrial structures, civil buildings, ancient constructions
and others. All of them have been executed on certain themes in the
"musical" gamut, both in the part of their compositional construction,
and in the part of the harmony of colors. The rhythm of color is the
actual dominant in the composition of architectural landscape. I tried
to show "how", "in what way and by what means” the architect
can create the genuine landscapes with their architectural contents.
Nowhere have I given so many techniques and methods of technical reproduction
of the art of graphics, as in the architectural landscapes. I have brought
the finesse of the work to the maximum limits, which enables me to place
these works in the category of the "genuine" architectural
miniatures.
The
range of the compositional constructions on the theme of architectural
landscape is not only large, but it is practically infinite. It is very important
and interesting to select the convenient point of vision so as to show
the artistic features of the demonstrated project, since it can change
radically the spectator’s attitude to the project. In addition to this,
the architectural landscape retains the right to present various panoramas
of settlements, towns, industrial areas, and bird’s eye views.
The
theme of architectural landscapes was continued by the cycle of miniatures
“Industrial Architecture” (“Industrial fairy-tales”), in which the author
glorifies “those magnificent structures of our epoch that can exist
in reality and even partially exist presently”.
“Our
epoch of industrialization in a number of accomplished
projects or projects to be realized, demands from us, architects, to
show that grandeur being carried out in the country of socialism. And
at the same time to show the methods and techniques, by means of which
the industrial architecture can be accomplished in more joyful, majestic
and expressive projects”.
